A Closer Look at Dry Eye

DES occurs when your eyes lack sufficient lubrication due to inadequate tear production, poor tear quality, or rapid evaporation of tears. There are two primary types: aqueous tear-deficient dry eye, where the eyes don’t produce enough tears, and evaporative dry eye, where tears evaporate too quickly due to oil gland dysfunction. Both types lead to discomfort and can affect your vision.

Recognizing Dry Eye Signs

The signs and symptoms of dry eye vary from person to person but can include:

  • Persistent dryness
  • Bloodshot or irritated eyes
  • Burning sensation in your eyes
  • Difficulty focusing, especially in dry or windy environments
  • Light sensitivity
  • Watery eyes
