About Dr. Apoorva

Dr. Shimy Apoorva is a board-certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in comprehensive eye care and the management of ocular inflammatory diseases. She has expertise in diagnosing and treating complex inflammatory and infectious eye conditions, including scleritis, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, and uveitis, in addition to managing glaucoma, cataracts, keratitis, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and dry eye disease.
 
Dr. Apoorva earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – Suwanee, Georgia, in 2017. She then completed her ophthalmology residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, NY, followed by a prestigious fellowship in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis under Dr. Stephen C. Foster at MERSI in Waltham, MA.
 
Dr. Apoorva’s clinical practice focuses on comprehensive ophthalmology, including cataract surgery, cataract surgery with MIGS (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery), SLT laser treatment for glaucoma, and intravitreal injections for retinal diseases such as wet and dry AMD and diabetic retinopathy. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Uveitis Society, and American Osteopathic Association.
 
Outside of medicine, Dr. Apoorva enjoys walking, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.
